Getting Involved

The Thrive Time curriculum was created by employees of Canyons School District to develop critical competencies that support students to be successful in school and life and to meet the requirements of Utah State Board of Education Rules (School Safety R277-609-4 and Prevention and Intervention R277-400-08). 

The curriculum was approved in June 2024 by the Canyons Board of Education to be implemented in elementary and middle schools beginning with the 2024-25 school year 

Thrive Time is organized into 6 units based on critical competencies. Each unit has a series of weekly lessons that target specific, developmental skills associated with each competency and their application in the physical and digital world. Lessons have been designed with intention to provide a routine and structure for explicitly teaching skills and building a responsive classroom community. 

Lessons can be viewed by grade level below. The teachers manual contains all of the lessons for a grade level. The scope and sequence give the recommended order to teach the lessons, and give a link to lessons by unit and grade.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
