Looking for family-friendly entertainment that won’t pinch your pocketbook? Consider attending performances of the fall musicals at Alta, Brighton, Hillcrest and Jordan high schools, which have developed reputations as powerhouses in live theater.

Alta High students sing the lullabies of Broadway in”42nd Street,” the Depression-era tale of an aspiring actress who catches a big break. Brighton High takes on Elvis Presley songs in “All Shook Up,” which is based on Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” Hillcrest High aims for musical magic with “Cinderella,” the famed Rodgers and Hammerstein production fondly remembered for its glass slippers, ugly step-sisters and one fantastical fairy godmother. Jordan High welcomes the community to “Bye Bye Birdie,” the story of a just-drafted rock star who, as part of a TV publicity stunt, agrees to publicly plant a kiss on his biggest fan.

The dates and times of the shows, which are produced at the schools, are: 

• Alta High School – “42nd Street,” Nov. 18-20, 7 p.m.; 2 p.m. matinee Nov. 20.  Cost is $7 in advance and $8 at the door.
• Brighton High School – “All Shook Up,” Nov. 11-13, 15, 7 p.m.; noon matinee Nov. 13. Cost is $8.  
• Hillcrest High School – “Cinderella,” Nov. 17-20, 7 p.m.; 1 p.m. matinee Nov. 20.  Cost is $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
• Jordan High School – “Bye Bye Birdie,” Nov. 17-19, 7 p.m.  Cost is $7.
