64 CSD Student Athletes Named to Spring Academic All-State Teams

In the final tally of the Utah High School Activities Association’s Academic All-State teams, student-athletes across Canyons District are proving their stellar skillsets inside the classroom and out.

For spring sports, 64 students from all of CSD’s five traditional high schools — Alta, Brighton, Corner Canyon, Hillcrest, and Jordan — have been honored with spots on the UHSAA’s Academic All-State teams. Student-athletes have been recognized in boys tennis, girls golf, softball, boys and girls track and field, boys volleyball, boys and girls lacrosse, and boys soccer, and baseball.

This year’s student academic and athletic achievements make it the second winningest year for Canyons District with a total of 149 Academic All-State recipients.  It is second only to the 2022-2023 school year in which 170 Canyons students were recognized. This spring’s achievements bested last year’s by eight.

Academic All-State award winners have a 4.0 cumulative GPA or meet an index score that takes into account a student’s grades and college-entrance exam scores. A student with a 3.9 GPA, for example, would also need to score a 30 or higher on the ACT in order to qualify.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
