Michael Goodman wants you to take a trip down memory lane, particularly if you have fond memories about Mount Jordan Middle School. Goodman, Mount Jordan’s library media teacher, asks former students and staff to contribute old pictures and anecdotes about their days at the Sandy school.
Goodman is working on the “Mount Jordan Memory Project,” which he hopes to complete by 2014, Mount Jordan’s 60th anniversary. The idea for the online treasure chest of written remembrances and memorabilia sprang from a professional-development conference he attended. He’s since been searching for items such as lists of principals and PTA history books to add to the project. “I’ve even gone through obituaries to try to find families with ties to the school,” he says with a chuckle.
An older gentleman he met at a bookstore has promised to write him anecdotes of leaving the school at lunch “to ride the cows in the field across the street.” And so far, he’s only had positive responses. No one has yet decried their time at the school as adolescent drudgery, he said, but perhaps that’s because only a handful of submissions have come his way. “Oh, I’m sure those people are out there,” he said. “Maybe that’s why I haven’t gotten those. They just haven’t written anything down and sent it in.”
