Specialized Schools and Programs

Early Childhood (801-826-5112)

Our early childhood department supports programs for children ages 3 thru 5 years of age.  Children can access to these programs through paying tuition, living within a Title I school boundaries, or by being identified as a child with a disability.   We use an evidence based curriculum that addresses content areas such as early mathematics, exploration, early literacy, social skills, conflict resolution,  and language development.  Our goal is to provide solid foundations to build strong readers, and problem-solvers.  For more information visit their web site at: https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/depts/early-childhood/

Jordan Valley School (801-826-7200)

Jordan Valley School is a center-based school for students with significant disabilities in Canyons School District. Special education and related services are provided to students from birth to age 22 based on an IEP team decision. These services may include, Speech and Language Therapy, School Psychology Services, Physical and Occupational Therapy Services, Music Therapy,  Adapted P.E. and Transportation. The facility includes a therapy swimming pool, two multi-sensory environment rooms, two playgrounds, a gymnasium, a cafeteria and an onsite school nurse station.  For more information visit their web site at: www.jordanvalley.canyonsdistrict.org/

Canyons Transition Academy (801-826-5335)

Canyons Transition Academy is a Post-Secondary Transition program providing students with disabilities the opportunity to make choices in a safe environment with person-centered planning, hands-on training, community access, and inclusion in community activities that lead to greater independence for living and employment.  For more information visit their web site at: https://cta.canyonsdistrict.org/

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
