Board of Education Ethics and Conduct Guidelines

 

1.     The Canyons Board of Education recognizes student education and welfare as its top priority and that it should be central to all decisions and actions of the Board. Board members are bound by the Utah Public Officers’ and Employees’ Ethics Act. In fulfilling their duties as elected officials, Board members should maintain and demonstrate high standards of conduct. The Board of Education therefore offers the attached Exhibit with conduct guidelines, for each member of
the Board of Education.

2.    Each Board member will submit a written conflict of interest disclosure between January 1 and January 31 of each year the Board member is in oDice in accordance with state law. (See, Utah Code 67-16-16).

Revised – 11.12.2024.  Policy 100.02 – Board of Education Ethics and Conduct Guidelines was updated pursuant to a requirement in Utah Code 67-16-16, that a Special public officer, which includes a local school board members, shall no sooner than January 1 and no later than January 31 of year, prepare a written disclosure statement that contains a response as outlined in state law.  (See, Utah Code Subsection 20A-11-1604 (6).   
 
Revised – 10.17.2023.  Policy 100.02-Board of Education Ethics and Conduct Guidelines was revised to include some additional guidelines related to conflicts of interest, fiduciary duty language, guarding the public trust, and preparation for Board meetings.  The revised conduct guidelines are included in an Exhibit to the Policy.
Adopted – 1.6.2015.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
