Policy 100.03 – Board Relationship with Superintendent

POLICY NUMBER:
100.03

ADOPTED:
1.6.2015

Board Relationship with Superintendent

  1. The Board of Education (Board), the Superintendent, and the Business Administrator/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) together form the leadership of the District. The Board governs, the Superintendent administers, and the Business Administrator/CFO conducts the financial management of the District. The leadership will work cooperatively to develop and further the mission, vision, and goals of the District. The Board employs and evaluates the Superintendent and holds that person accountable for District performance and compliance with state and federal statutes. The Board delegates authority to the Superintendent to manage the District and implement the core values, vision, mission, goals, priorities, and policies of the District.
  2. Although the Board approves all employment contracts, the Superintendent is delegated the authority and responsibility to select and evaluate district staff within the standards established by Board policy. Trust and communication are essential to a successful relationship between the Board and Superintendent. Board members should not be involved with the day-to-day operations of the District. Requests by Board members for specific information should be directed to the Superintendent. The Board is reliant upon the Superintendent to provide timely and accurate information. The Board establishes the end results of the District and the Superintendent recommends the means and methods to accomplish these ends.  The Superintendent recommends objectives, action plans, regulations, and procedures to implement the vision, mission, goals and policies established by the Board.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
