Funded by Teachers for Teachers: Here’s How to Apply for the ACE Scholarship

Are you a Canyons School District employee or graduating high school senior who is enrolled or enrolling in a college teacher-prep program?  If so, you could be eligible for up to $5,000 in annual tuition assistance to help you realize your dream to teach.

Applications are being accepted now through Friday, March 28, 2025 for the Aspiring Canyons Educator (ACE) Scholarship, a program funded by Canyons employees through a payroll deduction program.

In the program’s inaugural year, a Canyons District facilities maintenance technician, paraeducator at Bella Vista Elementary, and Brighton High graduate earned ACE Scholarships. Since then, the scholarship fund has doubled in size, which means the Canyons Education Foundation and Human Resources Department will be awarding double the number of scholarships this year.

“Canyons District manages to recruit top teachers from around the country,” said Foundation Officer Denise Haycock. “But we have paraeducators already in our classrooms and other employees who have a knack for working with students who absolutely love their jobs. With support and encouragement, we are hoping more of them will consider getting a full teaching credential. We want these employees to be able to continue working with us while they pursue a teaching degree.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a current, non-licensed CSD employee enrolled in a college-level education prep program.
  • Be a CSD high school senior with proof of admission to a college or university and plans to study education.

Eligibility details and instructions for applying for an ACE Scholarship can be found online.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
