Board Approves New Administrative Appointments

Canyons District is pleased to announce new leadership appointments, which were approved by the Board of Education on Tuesday, Feb 15, 2022. The appointments are:

  • Nate Edvalson, currently Special Education Program Administrator, will take the helm of the Special Education Department as Director. He will succeed Misty Suarez who is retiring. Prior to joining the District Office, Edvalson served as an assistant principal at Eastmont Middle and a counselor at Union Middle.
  • Kelly Tauteoli, currently Union Middle School’s Principal, will take a position as Human Resources Administrator. She will succeed Kim Baker who is retiring, and will primarily be responsible for the recruitment of secondary teachers.
  • Sara Allen, currently the Assistant Principal at Ridgecrest Elementary, will advance to serve as Ridgecrest’s Principal. She will succeed Julie Winfree who is the Principal of the new Glacier Hills Elementary. Prior to taking her administrative post at Ridgecrest, Allen was an assistant principal at Butler Middle School.

All but Allen’s appointment, which is effective immediately, are for the 2022-2023 school year.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
