All Systems Go! Helping All Students Build Job Skills, Launch Careers

Canyons District has adopted a “mission control” strategy for helping students with disabilities prepare for a successful launch to adulthood.

From meeting future employers to gaining real-world job experience, these initiatives — CSD’s Pre-Employment Fair and Summer Work-Based Learning Program — are all about helping teens and preteens plan for life after school.

Pre-Employment Fair — Monday, April 21, 4-7 p.m.

This isn’t your typical job fair. The Pre-Employment Fair is specially designed for middle school and high school students who have Individualized Education Plans or 504 accommodations — with the aim of helping them explore career paths, connect with local businesses and training programs, and learn about services that support the transition to adulthood.

At this event, which is being held at the Canyons District Offices, students can:

  • Talk to experts about college, job training, and other post-high school options
  • Learn what skills employers are looking for
  • Discover resources that can help them succeed in the workplace

Local favorites, El Paisa Grill and La Crepe D’Or will be serving up tasty eats available for purchase—because no great event is complete without great food!

Summer Work-Based Learning Program — June 2 to July 23, 2025

For students, aged 16–21 who receive special education or 504 supports, this hands-on summer program is a chance to try out the world of work—while building independence and confidence. Applications are due by May 16, 2025.

What’s included:

  • Paid and unpaid work experiences
  • Mentorship from professionals in real job settings
  • Networking opportunities
  • Training in how to use public transportation
