As a result of the of the number of positive COVID-19 cases associated with the school, coupled with the increase in the community transmission rates, Corner Canyon High students will continue on an online-only learning model until at least Friday, Oct. 16.
The decision to remain all-online at CCHS is in line with a recommendation from the Salt Lake County Health Department. It also follows the Canyons Board of Education’s COVID-19-response guidelines.
The number of cases associated with Corner Canyon High are available on Canyons’ data dashboard. Information from the data dashboard guides the Canyons Board of Education and Administration as the community works together to face this public-health challenge.
Also taken into consideration in this decision is the number of students who are on quarantine. Every positive case among students has potential to lead to an exponential number of students on quarantine. At that point, teachers are put in the difficult position of having to teach in-person students while also supporting the students on quarantine, who cannot attend class for two weeks.
Canyons School District will monitor pertinent data to determine when Corner Canyon will return to in-person learning. Information will be provided to parents and students in the coming weeks about the schedule that will be put into place at that time.
Canyons District continues to ask the Corner Canyon community for vigilance to health and safety precautions. Please observe physical distancing guidelines and wear face coverings. Only by working together can we maintain the level of health and wellness that would be required to return to campus.
