Canyons School District has again received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
The award “represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” Todd Buikema, Acting Director of GFOA’s Technical Services Center said in a letter to CSD’s Superintendent Dr. Jim Briscoe.
It’s a reflection of the quality of the comprehensive annual financial report that Canyons Business Administrator and CFO Leon Wilcox oversaw for fiscal year 2016. CSD’s comprehensive financial report was judged by an impartial panel upholding the highest financial reporting standards, including adherence to the spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate CSD’s financial story to patrons.
Canyons has won the award every year since its inception in 2009. Under Wilcox’s leadership, Canyons also has maintained its sterling, AAA bond rating.
The GFOA is a nonprofit, professional organization that includes some 17,500 government financial professionals. The organization has offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
