Student Work Takes Spotlight at Corner Canyon Art Gala

Prepared to be impressed with the handiwork of these Charger artists.

The Visual Arts Department at Corner Canyon will be hosting an Art Gala in the Corner Canyon High commons from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.

The gala will feature student artwork and performances from the jazz band and choir. Several pieces of artwork will be for sale.

There also will be refreshments provided by students, highlights from the Literary Magazine, and a short awards ceremony at the end of the evening.

Among the work featured at the gala:  Items from six Corner Canyon students who are finalists in the Freshwood woodworking competition, which is held in Las Vegas in June.

The students are Sadie Chidester, Elijas Chrapacas, Brad Kloos, Derek Mouser, Jacob Rubisch and Porter Thorkelson.

See photos of their work, which ranges from guitars to podiums, in an album on the Canyons District Facebook page.

Freshwood, sponsored by the Association of Woodworking and Furnishing Suppliers, includes secondary and college students in the United States and Canada. Congratulations to the students and teacher Timothy McNeill.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
