Canyons Preschools Accepting Applications Starting Jan. 5

Want your child to start attending preschool in Canyons School District in fall 2015?
 
New-student applications for available spots in the preschool programs at Altara, Butler, Jordan Valley, Quail Hollow and Willow Springs will be accepted starting Jan. 5.

All schools with space for tuition-paying students have morning and afternoon sessions. Morning sessions are 8:35-10:50 a.m. Afternoon sessions are 11:30 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Students can enroll in two- or four-days-a-week programs. Cost is $70 for two days a week; $140 for four days a week. 

Availability is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
 
Acceptance or denial letters will be mailed the first week of April. Students who are not accepted are placed on a waiting list and parents will be notified when space is available.

If you are interested in having your child attend Midvale, East Midvale, Copperview, or Sandy elementary Title I preschools, those applications will be available at the schools or the Early Childhood Development Office starting March 2. You must live within the Midvale, East Midvale, Copperview or Sandy boundaries, and your children must be at least 4 years old on or before Sept. 1. There is no fee associated with the Title I programs, which are held four days a week.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
