Calvin Yu, a junior at Hillcrest High School and recipient of an invitation to compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, is the fifth CSD student — and the fourth from the Home of the Huskies — to ace the ACT college entrance test in the 2013-2014 school year.
Yu earned a top composite score of 36 on the ACT test, taken in spring 2014 by all Utah high school juniors. Roughly one-tenth of one percent of the 1.8 million test-takers nationwide receive a top score. CSD’s other ACT aces are: Hillcrest’s Michelle Simmons, Joseph Morrell and Peter Johnston; and Alta High’s Sarah Farnsworth.
The ACT consists of test in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores.
