Quick, folks. Grab an autograph from one of these students. You never know if it will be worth something someday.
Canyons District students have won top honors from the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater’s High School Theater Awards.
When the envelopes were opened, these winners were announced:
Hillcrest High’s “Aida” won Best Musical; Hillcrest’s Malia Morley, who played the title role in “Aida,” won Best Actress; Alta’s Peter Lambert, who played Bobby Child in “Crazy For You,” won Best Actor; and Alta’s Brock Damjanovich, who played Bela Zangler in “Crazy for You,” won Best Supporting Actor.
As part of their awards, Morley and Lambert in June will fly to the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City. There, they will be seen by casting agents, engage in master classes and one-on-one coaching with the pros, and interact with Broadway actors.
They’re also in the running for Jimmy Awards for outstanding acting, and will attend the live awards show hosted by Broadway veterans and television personalities.
