The Canyons School District’s proposed budget for FY10 is approximately $200 million. It attempts to maintain academic programs and the salary schedule for educators and education support professionals.
The budget includes a proposed tax increase that would generate an additional $4.15 million in tax revenue. The impact on a $311,000 home would be an additional $46 annually, or a 3.8 percent increase over last year, on average.
Additional tax revenues are needed to fund the $3.8 million Canyons is required to give Jordan School District under a 2008 countywide capital equalization law.
Canyons School District has scheduled a Truth-in-Taxation hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. at Canyons District Offices, 9150 S. 500 West in Sandy.
The hearing is required for two reasons:
- As a new entity, the District’s tax rate is officially 0. The District under the law must set a tax rate. The proposed rate would constitute a tax increase.
- The Board of Education must adopt a formal budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.
