Canyons School District Instructional Supports Department supports a nurturing educational environment within elementary schools, fostering safety and student worth. Through the implementation of a rigorous curriculum, we empower students to actively engage, while nurturing a strong sense of community. We recognize that the skills honed in these formative years serve as the cornerstone for future learning in middle and high school. Our commitment lies in delivering high-quality teaching that ensures equitable access to the Utah State Board of Education standards, thereby supporting every student towards a successful academic journey.
Gaining Insights into our School Community
The Building Leadership Teams (BLT) in our elementary schools are taking on a Student Shadow Challenge, where they are invited to immerse themselves into the day in the life of a student for an entire school day. BLT members and invited district leaders will use this unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the student experience with the school climate and culture.
These individuals will explore the successes and challenges they encounter, to help identify areas for improvement in the school. Using this challenge to add student voices and perspectives, the hope is to cultivate a more inclusive and supportive school community.

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added: “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
