Canyons School District, in partnership with the Utah State Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program, offers a specialized educational track in Chinese, French, and Spanish, focusing on language proficiency and cultural awareness.
Aside from Dual Immersion, Canyons also provides a comprehensive World Language program at the secondary level. High school students can select from American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish, while middle school students have the choice of French or Spanish.
Both programs are grounded in the significance of multilingualism, which is increasingly acknowledged for its benefits such as enhancing cognitive abilities, improving academic performance, and giving students an advantage in the global workforce. Classes focus on immersive language and cultural experiences from the beginning, featuring hands-on activities, real-life scenarios, and engaging teaching methods like group work and role-playing. By exposing students to multiple languages and cultures, the Canyons School District not only enhances their language skills but also enriches their understanding and admiration for the world’s diverse cultures.
