Welcome to the Canyons Family Center, providing collaborative, creative and cooperative courses and other counseling services that help families of all kinds— and with all kinds of challenges — discover gentle and genuine avenues to assist each other, connect with each other and learn from each other.
The Canyons Family Center provides a spectrum of services including individual counseling, student-support groups and parent-education classes. Counseling services will include a preliminary intake process to help our experienced school psychologists and social workers determine what services may be needed to meet a family’s specific needs, whether as a result of an emotional crisis or not, are provided at no cost to families in Canyons School District.

Student Wellness Services Office Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday- Friday 801-826-5416. The CFC office hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00-7:30.
The Canyons Family Center is located at Mt. Jordan Middle School. The address is 9351 South Mountaineer Lane Sandy, UT 84070 Entrance to the CFC is on the west side of the building through the main doors.
Tuesday Classes 6:00- 7:30 PM
This class is a MUST for families struggling with understanding and parenting children with ADHD. This is a parent or caregiver-only class. This class will cover symptoms of ADHD, complex parenting issues, interventions in the home and school for ADHD children, school communication, and resources available in the community. This class is appropriate for parents with children already diagnosed with ADHD and those with a family history or suspect their child has ADHD.
Girls will learn about self-esteem and the factors that affect it. They will learn the symptoms and behaviors related to low self-esteem and develop skills to rebuild and maintain a solid self-esteem.
This is a class for parents and caregivers only. The focus of the class is to provide parents with positive parenting strategies that have proven successful with children in the home environment. Parents will be given the opportunity to problem solve issues and struggles that they experience as parents. Parents will be asked to try the strategies at home and report to the group weekly on how the strategies worked.
This three-week course is designed to assist the younger student (grades K-2) learn about their emotions and behaviors. Specific lessons will help students identify their emotional triggers, and develop strategies for improved self-management, coping skills, problem-solving, and relaxation. A parent/guardian is required to attend the class with the student. This class runs the first three weeks of each month, and participants must begin the first week.
The class will focus on understanding feelings, self-awareness, empathy, and strategies for handling strong emotions.
Wednesday Classes 6:00- 7:30 PM
This class is for parents and caregivers only. The focus of the class is to provide parents with positive parenting strategies that have proven successful with children in the home environment. Parents will be given the opportunity to problem solve issues and struggles that they experience as parents. Parents will be asked to try the strategies at home and report to the group weekly on how the strategies worked. (Please do not bring students or children to class)
Are you coping with any form of anxiety, including chronic worry, social anxiety, obsessive thoughts, and panic attacks? This structured skills group uses activities and acceptance-based strategies to help break the cycle of anxiety.

This three-week course is designed to assist the younger student (grades 3 -5) learn about their emotions and behaviors. Specific lessons will help students identify their emotional triggers, and develop strategies for improved self-management, coping skills, problem-solving, and relaxation. A parent/guardian is required to attend the class with the student. This class runs the first three weeks of each month, and participants must begin the first week.
This course is designed for adolescents to help them develop resilience skills. The course aims to empower students to face life’s challenges with confidence and adaptability, setting them up for greater success in all aspects of their lives.
This class is focused on skills for parenting teenagers who have depression or have exhibited suicidal ideation. The class will cover how to spot suicidal ideation, some prevention tips, and treatment options.
Early Intervention-Discipline Classes
(Every Tuesday and Wednesday) 6:00- 7:30 PM
This course is designed for adolescents and covers various topics, including anger triggers, emotional self-management, peer pressure, communication skills, problem-solving, coping, and relaxation techniques. ONLY ENROLL TO CLEAR DISCIPLINE RECORD INCIDENT & FINE. This course can be used to clear an incident on discipline records and clear discipline fines at your school if your Administration has agreed to clear an incident after completion of the course. A parent/guardian is required to attend with the student.
If your student attends a school outside of the district, please be advised a $50 fee must be paid through the “Pay Fines” portal before your student will receive their certificate of course completion.
The Substance Abuse Prevention class is designed for students who may have made poor decisions regarding drugs and alcohol and may be at risk for further substance abuse-related issues. The class includes specific lessons on problem-solving, decision-making, communication skills, mood management, the stages of adolescent drug/alcohol dependency, and basic drug/alcohol information. ONLY ENROLL TO CLEAR DISCIPLINE RECORD INCIDENT & FINE. A parent/guardian is required to attend the class with the student.
If your student attends a school outside of the district, please be advised a $50 fee must be paid through the “Pay Fines” portal before your student will receive their certificate of course completion.
