One of the first projects Canyons District launched after voters approved a $250 million bond in 2010 was a matter of safety. A review of District buildings revealed that Sandy Elementary was not meeting seismic code. The school, which was built in 1951, experienced a fire in 2006, but after the damaged parts were rebuilt, other areas were not brought up to code. Thanks to the bond, a seismic retrofitting for the elementary school was completed during the summer of 2011.
