Parent Night
"You're the Hero of Your Own Story" Johan caters school visits to the age of the students, incorporating magic tricks, artwork, music (he plays trombone and other instruments) and interactive stories. We talk about being the hero of your own story and tie it into writing, the importance of reading, and dealing with failure and not giving up. We create a story together as a group using a story box, and students dress up their teachers in capes and silly hats for the story. Johan shares a funny stories from his youth that students help act out. We talk about how creativity sometimes has unexpected consequences and apply this to anti-bullying. This is a student favorite! All students receive a (1) free piece of 5x7 artwork from Johan's books. Books available for pre-sale before the assembly with 40% of sales going back to the school. Books and art can also be purchased after the assembly online.AuthorCreative writing, being an author, anti-bullying, unexpected consequesnces, importance of reading, dealing with failure and not giving up.Johan is the author of 9 published middle-grade an young adult books. ElementaryOur program focuses on teaching elementary students crucial Internet safety tools in an enjoyable, engaging, and interactive manner. Using the S.T.O.P acronym, we emphasize the importance of Staying kind, Telling a trusted if they see something that doesn't seem right, Only connecting with real-life friends, and Protecting personal information. Our assembly features an enthusiastic emcee, music, and a mascot carrying a stop sign, creating a lively atmosphere. We actively involve older students in the assembly, assigning them speaking parts to act out real-life scenarios. Through games, we reinforce the implementation of each safety tool. We conclude the assembly with a rap accompanied by hand claps, serving as a memorable summary of the safety rules.PresenterInternet SafetyOur team has dedicated the past decade to perfecting this program. “The BT Five,” key principles to live by: Decision making Work ethic Relationship building Having and Inspiring Confidence Perseverance The main goal is to have the students reflect on their OWN stories, and think through the graduation advice THEY would give. We talk about the kind of advice you might give to your classmates, your future self, and even your family and friends—and making it the kind of advice that can outlast even the length of your own life. It’s an interactive presentation that can either take about an hour or a half/full day workshop, depending on time available and the preferred format. To have students consider what role they might play in the future of their community, state and country. We learn about history, government and military service in a way that makes all of the above relevant to the rising generation. If we are speaking of leadership: To help students recognize themselves as leaders, and to develop positive leadership qualities. With resilience we focus on the character traits and coping skills that help us face life's challenges.PresenterPatriotism/Military Service & Support; Leadership; ResilienceI have a bachelors in secondary education from BYU and an MEd from Utah State, and I do quite a bit of professional public speaking.

Theatre for Youth Education Center
Utah Valley University
Scott SavageThe goal is to increase student access to arts that are developmentally appropriate for their age and give students the opportunity to see theatre in their own space. The play always includes study guides that support educational aims tied to the production (and can be linked to state standards). Occasionally, the actors are available to create in-class workshops for students related to the play's themes, characters and plot.POPSTheatreThe center is run by Dr. John Newman and Scott Savage, MFA. Both have terminal degrees in theatre and backgrounds as theatre educators in public schools. The plays are developed with respected theatre artists, as well as rising college students who aim to make art for youth.Website/Video Link$100

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
