She made it.
Canyons District’s Barbara Hopkins reached her goal of hiking to the Base Camp of Mount Everest.
The Library Media Coordinator in CSD’s Evidence-Based Learning Department started the 17,000-foot trek at the start of the month and she arrived at her destination last Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014.
Hopkins’ journey up the world’s tallest peak also served as a fund-raiser for an effort that is close to her heart: literacy. She’s steadfast in her desire to help every child, no matter her or his circumstance, learn to read.
In honor of Hopkins’ grueling hike, please consider contributing Room to Read, which works to publish books, train teachers, support girls in their drives to finish secondary school, and establish school and public libraries in all parts of the globe.
You can donate on a web page Hopkins started before her journey.
