The Canyons Board of Education invites students, parents, teachers, community supporters and alumni to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate several renovations and upgrades at Alta High.
The event will be Tuesday, Oct. 28 at in front of Alta High, 11055 S. Hawk Hwy. A reception will be from 4-4:30 p.m. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will be kicked off with energetic cheers by Alta’s cheer squad, will begin at 4:30 p.m.
In addition to an impressive new entrance, construction crews added several new classrooms, four new tennis courts, the installation of a new sprinkler system, and the replacement of grass with concrete on the east side of the gymnasium.
The improvements were done as part of a capital-facility improvement plan approved by the Canyons Board of Education last spring. The district’s budget, as approved by members of the school board, included $7.5 million in small capital-facility projects. This summer, crews worked on projects at Jordan Valley, Eastmont Middle, and Oakdale, Ridgecrest, Sandy and Sprucewood elementary schools.
Canyons District also is in the midst of either building or planning for construction on three schools. Money from a voter-approved $250 million bond is funding the construction of the new Mount Jordan Middle and Butler and Alta View elementary schools.
Mount Jordan is scheduled to open in fall 2015. The Butler and Alta View projects are in the planning and design phases.
