The attention in Hollywood may be on the winners of the 86th annual Academy Awards, but the spotlight in Canyons District is on the rising stars of the 5th annual Canyons District Film Festival.
Parents, students, teachers and members of the community are invited to the Thursday, April 10 film festival, which starts at 6 p.m. at Union Middle, 615 E. 8000 South. At the free event, elementary, middle and high school students and teachers will receive awards for films they have created throughout the 2013-2014 school year.
Sixty-eight entries from 19 schools were judged for awards in such categories as Public Service Announcement, Animation, Newscast, Documentary, Advertisement, Feature Film, and Teacher Film.
Hillcrest High’s David Skorut, who last year won trophies in the secondary PSA and Feature Film categories, designed the poster that has been used to promote this year’s festival. Skorut’s winning design was chosen and announced at last year’s festival.
