Join us in nominating an American Indian high school student to be recognized for their achievements at the 15th annual American Indian Leadership Recognition event. Students can be nominated for recognition in a combination of areas, including:
– Academic achievement
– Arts
– Athletics
– Community projects
– Cultural recognition
– Leadership
– Scholarship
– Service learning
The American Indian Leadership Recognition event, “Seeing Through Native Eyes,” is scheduled for Saturday, April 19, at Granger High School, 3580 S. 3600 West. The event gets underway at 1 p.m., and includes speakers from the State Office of Education, Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake, and other organizations.
Canyons School District’s Office of Student Advocacy and Access collaborates with the American Indian Community on a number of projects and events, including Native American Heritage Month/Indigenous Day; Academic Collaboration of American Indian Students (ACAIS); Native American Family Nights; Navajo Government class at Jordan High; Artists in Residence; Indigenous Storytelling Festival; and the annual CSD Senior Honor Night.
CSD also congratulates Corner Canyon junior Alex Moushey, recipient of the 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Leadership Award. The award, bestowed by the University of Utah Alumni Association and Office of Diversity and Equality, is awarded to Utah students in grades 7-12 who show a dedication to the beliefs of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For Moushey, the award recognizes his commitment to serving the community through the ACAIS program.
