CSD Joins Healthy Sandy in Fitness Challenge

Sandy City wants to help Canyons District employees to shed any holiday weight gain.

All Canyons employees are invited to join residents in Healthy Sandy’s Summit Fitness Challenge. The aim of the initiative is to elevate the overall health and wellness and of the people who live and work in Sandy.

In-person registration begins Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at the Lone Peak Pavilion, 10140 S. 700 East.  Residents and employees also can use the city’s easy-to-use online registration.

Cost is $10 per person or $20 per family.

The program features three eight-week challenge sessions. The first challenge session – called Base Camp – runs from January to February. The second is from March to April, and the third is from May to June.

Participants, who also are encouraged to focus on nutrition, relationships, emergency preparedness and community service, can get a walking stick and medallions for each session completed.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
