Will Butler Middle School defend its Canyons School District Cross Country title? On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, the Bruins will take on the Bobcats, Knights, Mountaineers, Patriots, Trojans, Vikings, and Warriors at the 2013 Canyons School District Middle School Intramural Cross Country Meet. The race for the championship, which includes all eight Canyons District middle schools, gets underway with a parade of athletes at 9:15 a.m. at Eastmont Middle, 10100 South 1300 East in Sandy.
The Cross Country Meet includes the top three girls and top three boys from each grade in each of Canyons’ eight middle schools. Competitors run a 1.6-mile cross country race at the Eastmont campus. Trophies will be awarded to both boys’ and girls’ grade-by-grade divisions; individual winners will be awarded medals. This year’s race will be one for the books, as it’s the first time sixth-graders can participate as a result of grade reconfiguration.
The Canyons Middle School Intramurals Program launched in 2009 to promote healthy lifestyles and gauge interest for future competitive sports programs. Competitions have included cross country, chess, 3-on-3 basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, and soccer.
