Rickie McCandless, a respected former educational leader in Salt Lake City School District and member of the Canyons School District Educational Transition Team, has been named as the Superintendent Search Consultant to the Canyons Board of Education. McCandless was selected by the Board in September following a public RFP process in accordance with the Board’s Superintendent Search Timeline.
McCandless, an instructor at the University of Utah’s Urban Institute for Teacher Education, is scheduling visits with school communities to receive patron and employee feedback regarding the qualities and characteristics the new superintendent should possess. Stakeholder meetings will be held throughout October and part of November. Input received at the meetings will inform the Canyons Superintendent job posting, which is expected to be issued at the outset of 2014.
“Ms. McCandless brings to the superintendent search process a wealth of knowledge about public education leadership and Canyons School District,” Board President Sherril Taylor said. “We as a Board of Education look forward to working with her in this important endeavor.”
Former Canyons Superintendent Dr. David Doty resigned effective June 30, 2013 to take a job with an education reform firm. The Board appointed Dr. Ginger Rhode, who had been serving as Canyons’ Deputy Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer, to lead the District as Interim Superintendent.
