Volunteering in a school is one of the most rewarding contributions that Canyons District parents, grandparents and interested members of the community can make. Just ask Suzanne Walker, CSD’s 2012 Apex Award winner for Volunteer of the Year.

“I love seeing the kids’ smiles. When they see me outside the school, at the store, or at the park, and they come running up to me, (saying) ‘Mrs. Walker!’ And they give me a big hug – that is priceless,” said Walker, who is known for her tireless dedication to Midvale schools. “One person can make a difference, and we just need to remember that.”

Endless possibilities exist for parents and patrons to become involved as a volunteer in Canyons District elementary, middle or high schools. There are a few steps involved in the process of becoming a volunteer, including submitting a volunteer application that allows the District to conduct a state-required cursory background check. But don’t let this deter you from becoming involved. It’s an easy process.

Every hour you contribute doing something at the school of your choice means that teachers, principals, office staff and support people in the schools can focus on what they do best: working to improve the educational experience of each child.
