Students at Oakdale Elementary last school year emptied their piggy-banks and searched for spare change under the couch cushions so they could buy desks for students in Kenya. On Nov. 14, 2012, they received a personal “Asante” for their efforts. Representatives of Kenya Keys visited Oakdale to offer their thanks, show cultural items and share stories about students who received the desks at Taru Primary School. The visit, and desks donation, was made possible by Kenya Keys, a non-profit that aims to improve education in Kenyan villages. Kenya Keys gave the students’ $900 donation to a Kenyan business to build the desks to give to the school.
