A Hillcrest High junior was selected through a competitive audition process to perform as a soloist with the American West Symphony.
As the winner of the American West Piano Competition, Jerry Fu, 16, took the stage with the symphony on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 8600 S. 700 East.
He performed Chopin’s “Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise” and Mahler’s “Symphony No. 1 (The Titan.)”
Fu, who started playing when he was 5, is a decorated pianist. He’s performed twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City for winning first place in the 2010 and 2012 international piano competitions and was invited to perform for the leaders of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games while they were visiting Utah in fall 2005.
