A group of five Hillcrest sophomores, who wowed Canyons District judges with an original arrangement of the National Anthem, has been named the winners of the Canyons Idol vocal talent search.

The 2012 Canyons Idols Grace John, Valerie Landeen, Emilee Burton, Leki Mahe, and Nick Siebers were among 60 students who auditioned for the top honor and opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the Saturday, May 5, 2012 Canyons District Night at Real Salt Lake. The students’ performance will be the first of two Canyons events at the Major League Soccer game, where Teachers of the Year from each of Canyons’ 44 schools will be honored on the field at halftime.

In all, 48 individuals and groups auditioned for Canyons Idol on Friday, April 13, 2012. The winners were announced on Friday, April 20.
