The teenage years can be notoriously difficult to navigate. Canyons District recognizes this, and has planned an “Adolescent Issues Night” to provide parents some successful strategies as they guide and support their growing children.
The keynote speaker of the 6:30-8:30 p.m. free event on Thursday, March 22 will be Joshua Covey, who leads business development initiatives for FranklinCovey’s “The Leader in Me” program. Covey, who lives in Draper, has earned a bachelor’s of arts degree from Brigham Young University and an MBA from UCLA.
His address, as well as two 45-minute breakout sessions, will be at Eastmont Middle School, 10100 S. 1300 East.
Breakout-session topics include:
- How prescription drug use can affect your teen’s brain
- Recognizing the early signs of drug or gang activity
- How parents can help stop bullying in schools
- Internet safety in the 21st century
- How to approach tough topics with your teenager
The aim of this event and others that Canyons District is offering this year is to provide parents with information they may find useful as they guide their children to healthy habits.
This is the second of such events planned and sponsored by Canyons District middle school administrators and the Region 17 PTA. The first CSD Adolescent Issues Night, held in October at Midvale Middle School, was well-attended and received by parents of CSD students.
