Superintendent Profiled in National Leadership Magazine

Canyons Superintendent David Doty is profiled in the October 2011 edition of The School Administrator, the magazine of the American Association of School Adminstrators.

The profile,A Startup District’s Uber-Tweeter,” focuses on Canyons School District innovations and Dr. Doty’s use of social media to keep stakeholders apprised of school, District and educational leadership news.

“Doty has seized full advantage of the entrepreneurial opportunities that accompany the startup of a new school system, Utah’s first in 100 years,” states the article, penned by editor Jay P. Goldman. “With an ample dose of personal energy and a unique fascination with social media to connect with those in his community, the affable Doty already has put in place some progressive ideas, including differentiated diplomas for high schoolers.”

The American Association of School Administrators is a worldwide professional organization for more than 13,000 educational leaders, including chief executive officers, superintendents and senior level school administrators, professors and aspiring school system leaders.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
