Canyons District Nurse Stacy Drew has received the Mary Ito Award from the Utah School Nurse Association for her unique contributions to school nursing.
Drew, who recently earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Informatics, has used her skills to develop several tools to streamline nursing tasks and improve services. She developed an online Medication Training Program that Canyons uses to educate school staff on proper medication administration. She worked with the Canyons Information Technology Department to create a computerized system to track and record student immunization information. She also developed an online evaluation for District First Aid, CPR & AED Training, and an electronic vision referral system. In addition to her exceptional skills, Drew is known for her enthusiasm, sense of humor, and willingness to share her knowledge with others.
Drew, who was nominated for the award by her nursing peers at Canyons School District, received the award at the Utah School Nurse Association’s spring conference in March.
The Mary Ito Award bears the name of a nurse who spent her career working on a Wyoming Indian Reservation and her retirement working in Utah. The Mary Ito Award is given annually to a school nurse who has made unique contributions to school nursing by carrying on Ito’s inspirational spirit and mantra: “Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much.”
