Join the Superintendent’s Reading Challenge 2011

David_Doty_s_ShelfSuperintendent Dave Doty invites faculty, students, staff and other folks in the Canyons community to join him in the Superintendent’s Reading Challenge 2011.

The challenge is really quite simple: read at least one book a month – or 12 total – for the year.  Dr. Doty plans to share anecdotes of his reading adventures on his blog, “Dave’s Dialogue,” found on the Canyons Web site.

A great way to track your reading – and find out what other people are saying about the books they have read – is at the free Web site Shelfari.com.

Here is the link to the Canyons School District Superintendent’s Challenge

Dr. Doty has created a group on the site if you’re inclined to join and see what types of books are on peoples’ shelves. The group is “Canyons School District Superintendent’s Challenge.” Dr. Doty will post the books he’s reading, and we ask you to do the same.  Join us.  After all, we’re inclined to agree with Irish writer Sir Richard Steele, who noted,  “Reading is to the mind is what exercise is to the body. ”

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
