Superintendent Dave Doty says schools officials will understand if students who attend school in Cottonwood Heights are a few minutes late on Monday morning. Roads leading to a handful of Canyons District schools have been closed to allow crews to clean up an accident.
Law enforcement officials report that the driver of a delivery truck lost control of his vehicle and smashed into a power pole on Bengal Boulevard Monday morning. The accident felled power lines, which affected a high school, middle school and two elementary schools.
However, as of about 9 a.m., power had been restored to Brighton High School, Butler Middle School and Butler and Canyon View elementary schools. As the power outage didn’t severely hamstring the schools’ ability to operate, school is in session today.
Traffic woes may persist, however. Bengal Boulevard is closed from 2400 East to 2600 East. Parents, staff, students and school visitors can access schools from 2300 East or 2600 East. Fort Union also is open.
