Know of a retiree or college student who would be interested in helping children learn to read?
Canyons School District seeks two people to serve as AmeriCorps Literacy Volunteer Coordinators at Sunrise and Midvale elementary schools. These positions need to be filled by Monday as part of an AmeriCorp grant.
The position requires 900 hours during the school year, or approximately four hours of daily work, helping children who are struggling with reading by recruiting and supervising a minimum of 25 volunteers to act as tutors.
This position is compensated through a living allowance of $4,125 for the year, with a transferable educational award of $2,675, which can be used toward payment of student loans, tuition, fees or books, to be provided at the end of the first year of service.
Please pass the word to those you think might be interested in this rewarding work.
But please, do so quickly. The District needs to fill the jobs by Monday, Aug. 30. AmeriCorp training is scheduled for Aug. 30 Sept. 1.
