Canyons Announces Summer Food Services

Canyons School District is offering the Summer Food Service Program at six sites beginning June 7, 2010. Free meals will be made available to attending children (18 years old and younger) June 7 – Aug. 13 at all sites except Midvale Elementary, which will end the service August 11.

Breakfast will be served from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., except at Midvale Elementary, which will serve breakfast from 8 – 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at all sites. Adults may purchase meals at these sites. Prices are $2 for breakfast and $3 for lunch. Meals will not be available July 5 or July 23 in observance of the Independence Day and Pioneer Day holidays.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
