The Parent-Teacher Association at Sunrise Elementary last week organized the school’s first ever “I’m Going To College Week,” which featured activities encouraging students to prepare for college or trade school educations.

Games and activities focusing on study habits and college preparations were planned for each day of the special week. Each class became its own university and created a name, banner, mascot, and colors that they took to an assembly on Friday, April 30. Students also were shown authentic university class catalogues so they could create a “dream schedule” of classes that sounded interesting.

An essay contest on the theme “Why College Will Be A Good Thing For Me” yielded winners from every grade level. 

A trade school fair was held Thursday, April 29, with exhibits and demonstrations from local trade schools, showcasing cosmetology, massage, cooking, automotive jobs and robotics.

An assembly on Friday, April 30 featured mascots from the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University, Weber State University, Southern Utah University, and College of Eastern Utah gave students “mascot training” and engaged in friendly intercollegiate competition.
