Jordan Valley School is hosting a Bike Fair and Fun Run community event to help raise money for adaptive tricycles, which allow students with severe disabilities a chance to improve motor skills — and experience the exhilaration of riding a bike alongside their peers.

The fair is Friday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Jordan Valley School, 7501 S. 1000 East in Midvale. The fair offers free entry and will feature adaptive trikes for students with disabilities to try; a professional bike stunt show; free bike helmets, a bike safety course, and goodie-bags; a 1-mile Fun Run/Walk at 2:30 p.m. ($15 for adults, $10 for children, and T-shirts to the first 100 registered); raffle prizes; and family activities including bouncy houses, a bake sale, and live music.

The adaptive trikes, which cost $2,000-$5,000 apiece, help students with disabilities improve their mobility. They support students well enough to pedal and steer with minimal help from a caregiver, helping riders to improve motor control, mobility, range of motion, and sensory awareness.
