Canyons School District is accepting applications for first-graders to enter seven Dual-Immersion programs, three of which will debut in the District this coming fall.
Dual-Immersion, offered in partnership with the State Office of Education, offers students instruction in a target language, including in the subjects of math, science and social studies, for at least 50 percent of the school day. Dual-Immersion programs help students develop the ability to read, write, speak and listen in another language from fully proficient teachers. They also will develop a world cultural understanding and be prepared academically, linguistically and socially for the challenges and needs of our increasingly global society.
Dual-Immersion programs are offered at the following elementary schools. The asterisk denotes that a new program will begin in fall 2010:
Spanish-English: Silver Mesa*, Alta View
Mandarin Chinese-English: Ridgecrest*, Draper, Lone Peak
French-English: Butler*, Oak Hollow
Applications are available by clicking here. The application deadline is Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
