Getting Involved

Canyons School District is committed to maintaining an academic and workplace environment where all students, employees, and visitors at any of our campuses, as well as the District Offices, are treated with civility, dignity, and respect.

This office is responsible for administering the process for ensuring those in the District who qualify for accommodations under the American Disabilities Act receive the help they need.  This department also responds to any concerns or complaints about student or employee behavior that may be considered unwelcome, problematic or a violation of district policy or state or federal laws. This office is the main investigative arm of the district if and when allegations of improper conduct are reported.

The Director and staff produce federal and state reports regarding safe school issues and EEO/AA data. They also help oversee programs to improve student behavior, including student-conduct hearings, review school placement when violations of the Safe School Act occur and conduct appeals regarding academic placement in our schools (grade retention and promotion, as well as entrance to programs for the academically gifted).

The Legal Counsel assists in educating the CSD community about sexual harassment and gender-equity issues in the hope of preventing inappropriate and unwelcome sexual and/or gender-related conduct.

Compliance Statement

The Canyons School District Compliance Office functions as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates complaints and compliance issues within the organization relating to civil rights including, but not limited to, Title VI and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1972, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. One goal of the Compliance Office is to respond to these concerns in a fair and responsible manner in order to stop offensive, unwelcome, or problematic behavior.

The Compliance Office also assists in educating the Canyons School District community about identifying, responding to, and preventing discrimination and harassment based on race, color, national origin, religion, disability, age, and gender—including unwelcome sexual and/or gender-related misconduct, such as discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation and identity. Canyons School District is committed to maintaining an academic and workplace environment where all students, employees, and visitors at any of our campuses and the District Offices are treated with civility, dignity, and respect. Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
