Graduating Seniors: Apply Now for Five Canyons Education Foundation Scholarships

The Canyons Education Foundation is committed to supporting students in their growth and aspirations — and the number of scholarships the Foundation is offering is growing, too!

The Foundation facilitates five scholarships, including the new Canyons Strong Scholarship for seniors attending a Canyons high school, the Bright Future Scholarship, and the Mont and Kristine Millerberg Scholarship, to name a few.

“We want to provide opportunities for our students to continue to not only better themselves but also leave a positive impact on their community,” says Denise Haycock, Development Officer for the Foundation. “These scholarships can help students looking to achieve their dreams.”

Application windows are open now for these Canyons scholarships:

Canyons Strong Scholarship – Canyons Education Foundation’s newest scholarship seeks to reward a senior from each of Canyons’ high schools, Alta, Brighton, Corner Canyon, Hillcrest, Jordan, and Diamond Ridge/Entrada. Qualifying candidates are seniors who have “risen” above difficult circumstances either in family life, financially, emotionally, scholastically, etc. and are still dedicated to furthering their education. Applications will be accepted until Friday, Feb. 28, 2025 by 5p.m. Review requirements and apply here.

ACE Student Scholarship – The ACE student scholarship is open to any graduating Canyons District student who will be enrolled in a University Educator Preparation program which leads to initial licensure as an elementary, secondary, or special education teacher. Review requirements and apply here.

Mont and Kristine Millerberg Scholarship – Mont and Kristine Millerberg have supported Canyons students for decades. Now the scholarship established in their name will continue to do the same for high school students who will pursue a degree in either accounting or education. Applications will be accepted through March 28, 2025. Review requirements and apply here.

Draper Chamber Legacy Scholarship – Canyons students can also apply for the William E. Rappleye Draper Area Chamber of Commerce Legacy Business Scholarship. The scholarship is spearheaded by Rappleye and commemorates the Draper Chamber’s work while encouraging local students to reach for their dreams. Applications will be accepted through March 28, 2025. Review requirements and apply here.

Bright Future Scholarship – The Bright Future Scholarship was established with the idea of supporting students who beat the odds in pursuing a higher education. Applications will be accepted through March 28, 2025. Review requirements and apply here.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
