Identity Fraud Insurance Approved
The Board of Education unanimously voted to purchase identity fraud insurance for one year for employees
whose personal information was believed to be contained on a missing flash drive. At the meeting, a
number of potential credit monitoring and identity fraud insurance programs were presented for consideration.
Upon reviewing such options, the Board indicated a desire to pursue one company’s insurance services
as a way to move forward proactively on behalf of potentially affected employees. The Administration
will enter into discussions to secure an acceptable contract for identity fraud insurance, and communicate
details in a letter to personnel as soon as they are available. The Administration on July 10 notified
personnel of an investigation into the disappearance of a flash drive believed to have contained their personal
information, including addresses, Social Security numbers and dates of birth. An internal investigation
is continuing. The District has received no information to date that the drive was used to perpetrate
identity theft. Nevertheless, the Board reiterated its desire to proactively assist those whose information
was believed to be contained on the flash drive.
