Thirty CSD Students Earn Academic-All State Honors for Winter Sports, Theater, Music, Debate

These students are more than just stars on the athletic field, debate room, and performing stage.

They invest as much time and attention to their studies as they do dance, drama, basketball, debate, music, wrestling, and swim practice — and it shows.

For excelling in their academic, artistic, and athletic endeavors, 30 Canyons students representing all of the District’s traditional high schools have earned Academic All-State status in winter sports and theater, music, and debate.

Sponsored by the Utah High School Activities Association, the Academic All-State Award has been around for more than three decades and honors high school seniors for achieving academically while also being contributors to a varsity sport or activity, such as, debate, theatre and music.

In order to qualify, students must have a 4.0 cumulative GPA or meet an index score which takes into account a student’s grades and ACT or SAT scores. A student with a 3.9 GPA, for example, would also need to score a 30, or higher, on the ACT in order to qualify.

Congratulations to our 2021 awardees for winter sports and theater, music and debate:

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
