Canyons District Begins Taking Nominations for 2024 Apex Awards

It takes a village to run a school.

Canyons District rises because of its first-rate administrators, exemplary educators, amazing aides, and busy bus drivers. CSD succeeds due to the work of top-tier cafeteria and custodial staff, technology experts, and financial wizards — not to mention scores of tradesmen, secretaries, donors, business partners, and volunteers.

Only through the combined knowledge and skill of these champions of public education do our students learn, grow, and achieve. The work to inspire the next generation of innovators, artists, and leaders isn’t done for public acclaim. But CSD has established a tradition of outwardly expressing appreciation for those who go above and beyond to help CSD reach the apex of achievement.

Since 2010, Canyons has recognized and celebrated the dedication of employees, supporters, and volunteers with Apex Awards, the highest awards bestowed by the Board of Education and Administration. The honors are presented during a ceremony in the fall.

Winners are nominated by the public and chosen by the Canyons Board of Education and Administration.

Nominations, which are being accepted via this easy-to-use online tool, are open through Aug. 22, 2024.

Apex Award categories are:

  • Teacher of the Year
  • School Administrator of the Year
  • District Administrator of the Year
  • Business Partner of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Elected Official of the Year
  • Student Support Services Professional of the Year
  • Education Support Professional of the Year
  • Legacy Award

Nominations can be submitted for all categories except Teacher of the Year, which is chosen and announced in April. This year’s Canyons District’s Teacher of the Year is Kevin Clyde, a mathematics teacher at Alta High.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
