In May 2023, Utah passed HB 227 which requires Computer Science (CS) to be taught in every grade-band, discipline, and at every K-12 school. Canyons School District is actively working to provide all K-12 students with Computer Science opportunities that support the 4 Cs of 21st Century Skills. These skills include: Critical thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication Creativity.
What is Computer Science?
Utah and Canyons School District uses the National Science Foundation’s definition of computer science, “the study of computers and algorithmic processes and includes the study of computing principles and theories, computational thinking, computer hardware, software design, coding, analytics, and computer applications.”
CS in CSD
Computer science education plays a crucial role in fostering the skills and mindset needed for success in today’s world. Integrating computer science into education can empower students to become impactful citizens who are equipped to tackle real-world problems with creativity and ingenuity.
CS is Important for Our Future
Offering students opportunities to innovate, think critically, collaborate, and be resilient learners, Canyons School District helps prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
