Alta, Brighton and Corner Canyon High to Return to On-Campus Learning

When Alta, Brighton and Corner Canyon High students return from Fall Recess, they’ll be returning to on-campus learning.

Starting Monday, Oct. 19, the three schools will shift from split or virtual schedules to full calendars of on-campus instruction.

The change comes at the recommendation of local health officials and signals a significant decline in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with the schools. In recent days, active cases among Alta, Brighton and Corner Canyon students and employees have fallen well below the 15-case-per-school threshold that triggers discussions about mitigation strategies per Canyons’ guidelines.

Parents received notifications on Wednesday about the return to on-campus learning.

District administrators and school leaders are heartened by these numbers and thank families for doing their part to slow the spread of the virus. For the past two weeks, the Hawks, Bengals and Chargers have redoubled their efforts to remain as safe as possible.

However, now is not the time to relax. This weekend for Fall Recess, many families have planned short getaways, which we hope families enjoy safely. Gatherings or outings without masks or physical distancing increase the chances of COVID-19 taking hold again in the school community.

Parents and guardians can access information about COVID-19 cases in Canyons schools on CSD’s data dashboard, found on Canyons District’s website, canyonsdistrict.org. Information from the dashboard guides Canyons District as the community works together to face this public-health challenge.

As a reminder, all Canyons District schools, including Alta, Brighton and Corner Canyon, are under a four-to-one schedule with four days of classroom learning and Friday reserved for remote, or independent, learning.

Please direct questions by email to communications@canyonsdistrict.org or the Main Office of your student’s school.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
